Villagers Lay Seize of Police Station for Case Registration

This is said that India is a free country and its citizens have every right to live, eat or accept any religion, but this is only a dream as dalits are still being treated as slaves by the non-dalits. The similar incident happened with Sawai Ram, son of Mohan Ram, who committed suicide after the Rajputs beat him up for not listening to them.

Sawai Ram went to a fair at Perou Gogaji on September 20, 2007, where Himmat Singh, son of Takhat Singh, Achal Singh, son of Khim Singh, Tej Singh, son of Khush Hal Singh, and Bhaira Ram, son of Modaram Meghwal, beat him up, but the people there saved him. In the evening they came to his house, hurled abuses on him and threatened him to kill if he went to the police.

Sawai Ram wrote a suicide note and died after jumping into a tanka (a water storage structure). His body was handed over to the family for cremation after postmortem.

When the workers of the organization came to know about the incident, they along with his father went to police station, Gida, but the case could not be registered as the accused had political approach. On September 27, 2007 the villagers laid seize of the police station and under pressure the policemen registered the case under Sections 306 and 143 of Indian Penal Code and Section 3 of the SC/ST Act.

The villagers demanded impartial probe in the matter. The accused with their high political connections tried to hush up the case. But the workers of the organisation made Sawai Ram not to go in for a compromise.

With the concerted efforts, Mohan Ram got Rs 50,000 as financial help from the government. The accused is still in the jail and the case is pending in the court.
